BIOTECHNOLOGY Asia 2005 Innovation Awards aimed at recognizing achievements and innovation in biotechnology research are to be introduced.
Organizing chairman of the trade event Biotechnology Asia 2005 Datuk Ahmad Ithnin said the awards will further encourage growth and progress in the industry particularly in products produced through the application of biotechnology.

The awards are for public and private research institutions, he said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Biotechnology Asia 2005, which will take place at the Putra World Trade Centre from August 16-18 2005, offers a diverse range of latest products, services, and technologies as well as extensive networking opportunities for industry players, policymakers and government officials.

This is the second time the trade event is being held, aimed at creating a strategic platform to launch industry players onto the regional platform, as well as to enhance networking and growth in the industry.

Over 5,000 trade visitors were at last year’s event, of which almost 60 per cent were decision-makers. It had attracted about 80 exhibitors, comprised mainly universities, research institutions, biotechnology companies, manufacturers and suppliers of laboratory equipment.

As at May, more than 40 companies had signed up for the 2005 exhibition including repeat exhibitors like CinnaGen Inc, Millipore Singapore Pte Ltd, Interscience Sdn Bhd, Roche Diagnostics, Sigma-Aldrich (M) Sdn Bhd, as well as research institutions like Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, Biotechnology Centre Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute (Mardi) and Malaysian Cocoa Board, Ahmad said.
